View Full Version : Dirty Birds - Fowl or Foul
A grudge match? What have the Dirty Birds ever done to you or the Kelts to deserve such hatred? The Dirty Birds are well known and respected within the rugby community. Besides being a good spirited talented rugby team, they are also gentlemen with good standing in society.
True, they are a tough, rough bunch of players but they are also a compasionate, loving group of men. If I remember correctly, a group of Dirty Birds went to Thailand to help some deserving 17 year old school girls. These girls were poor and needing food and shelter. These fine, caring, compassionate ruggers found a way to help these girls raise some money.
So, please don't have such hard feelings towards these gentlemen. You should love and honor them. Maybe even buy them a beer when you see them out doing one of the vast charity works they do.

It is with great joy that I start this thread so that on the occasion of our first ever current squad vs. "old boys and retirees" game, we have an official and central location to sling good natured barbs and abuse at each other. Just to kind of get a feel for the tone of the day.
So, gentlemen and Kelts alike, feel free to share your thoughts on this Saturday's game.
Also, even though the shite will fly here, I would like to put out for discussion or just plain agreement, that any fisticuffs this Saturday is dealt with by immediate ejection, although teams may replace those players.
I think we need to look at this as a friends and family type day, with the competition being hard but friendly, since the guys we are playing against are old, unfit and/or easily breakable.
Further, as we get much closer to the date, let's see if we can nail down when the actual 10 year anniversary of the Kelts is. Please choose from the poll selections. It seems that everytime I ask one of those feeble-minded old boys, I get a different answer. Please only vote if you are pretty sure, it's not a guessing contest.

I think that, not unlike the Thursday evening Maggots game at Maggotfest, in order to level the playing field on Saturday, all current active and young Kelts should get absolutely shit-faced Friday night.

Pauly,
I believe the proper term is Shite-Faced. :D
It was Spring or Fall of 94. Mike Brown, Brian Young or Dale can settle this. I accidentally selected Spring of 93. Speaking of feeble. I'm pretty sure it was the Spring of 94.
Sorry, Paulee. I guess I started early.

I heard through the grapvine that the Dirty Birds were not using actual calls in the lineout. Instead, they will be using certain phrases to determine where it goes. If someone says, "Jesus he hit me hard" it will go to the first jumper. If it's, "Man I'm fat and out of shape" it will go to the second jumper and for "Gees, I'm too old for this" it will go to the back of the line.
It is widely understood that the person throwing in will be quite confused in a matter of minutes of play.

The inaugural season for the Kelts was Spring 1994. We formed after the fall '93 season and began winter workouts at HDI (Dale's former employer) in January '94. We practiced at a City of Covington field, where the local kids threw rocks at us. Our first match as a team was at Nash Bash vs. (I believe) Lexington, and our first try was scored by Dave Jansen. So, our ten year anniversery is a little more than a year away.

And who would be throwing in the ball, because it sounds like you could blanket that statement for any one of us.
Hopefully, the Kelts have enough gumption to change their calls since they are widely known to all Kelts young and old?

It seems that there was a Kelt and a Dirty Bird walking across the Big Mac Bridge (surely on their way to Hooters). About halfway across, they both had to urinate (seeings as they had both picked up 40's of Ole E for the walk across). They both turned and began to pee when the Dirty Bird exclaims, "Damn, that water's cold!". The Kelt simply replied, "Yea, and it's deep too."

Has anyone else found the humor on the front of the Main Page where it says, "MEN vs. Dirty Birds"?

You Dirty Birds may want to invite another team for subs. I know there aren't that many who can hang the whole time. You may be a little short on bodies and oxygen!

I'm thinking that maybe you're underestimating the Dirty Birds, after all didn't many of them play Division 1 ball for a while?

True, and many of them make outrageous claims, like they invented the question mark.

To hogleg:
There is something about scoring tries at will that keeps even the least fit among us in the game for the sheer fun of it.

Sean Flynn (a notorious Dirty Bird and master of the sublime) to the forwards last night:
"I just want you guys to slow it down, don't kill each other"
Hmmmmmm..........
On another note, it's nice to see some of the older folks getting up from thieir wheelchairs and talking a little smack. I know you're all familiar with little.
Gameplan for Kelts: Spin wide and tire them out. Score tries while they are taking a smoke break.

You could always try hiding their inhalers.

Don't the Dirty Birds have bar practice tonight?
Hogleg

I think they're getting together to play bocce, drink cheap beer, and discuss their game plan. Which is probably "nice and easy"!

Good job Hookie-san. However there were Kelts still there at 11. No Dirty Birds in sight. Must've been gettin' their beauty sleep.
So how was it? How many broken hips were there?

Score was: Kelts - a whole lot, Dirty Birds - not quite as much
A good time was had by all with no serious hip damage, no major physical scuffles and good verbal abuse by all.
B-side played extremely well and beat White River in the closing minutes of the game.
The party was a success, as always. Three were inducted into the order of the Zulu - all were extremely European.....
Men of the Match were Vez and Cameron for the Kelts for their tremedous play in both the A and B games and Buttercup for the Dirty Birds because he said he'd beat someone up if he didn't get chosen, just kidding, also a stong player who played in both games.
Thanks to all who helped in getting this weekend together, especially Mike Brown and Dave Graf. This was highly successful and we look forward to Kelts vs. Dirty Birds 10th year reunion match, Saturday, September 27th, 2003. Plan for sitters now!!!!
