Ii'm new here, I watched the game between the kelts and indy last sat. this truly is a great sport. I have a question. I am currently a student at uc that has never played rugby, but am very interested in the sport. I am 5'10 200 lbs with a 7 year background in fullcontact Tae kwon do. are ther any clubs that I could sign up to play with? being totaly green I don't know where to start. Any help is appreciated.

You can start A-side with us and just do whatever you would do in a typical Tae Kwon Do match, spar, whatever. We could definitely use your skills. Especially against Queen City.

You would be welcome to play with us. Most of our players come to our club without any experience. On the other hand there is a rugby club at UC, and they are well coached.

Hey Aaron,

Just show up at the Bank Street field on Thursday at 6:30, see if you want to give it a try...

Cheers

Thanks for your hospitality,
Sorry for the late response. Is it ok if my wife and I come out to on thursday night to watch you guys practice? I'm looking for an activity to get in shape with, and this looks really fun. I've never played football or anything similar, but I am willing to learn.
Thanks,
Aaron

Sure you can come out and watch but wouldn't it be better if you bring some boots and participate? You would be welcome to take part in practice, your wife too! We have a lot of players who never played rugby, football or anything like that before joining the club. Hell, Paulie was a tuba player!

If you both come on Tuesday, your wife can practice with us. The women's team practices on the same field, some drills with the men, some separate. We'd love to have her out!

Thanks,we'll be there Thurs. at 6:30. I haven't invested in any gear yet. My wife is not interested in playing, she just wants to see what rugby is like, she is afraid that I will break my neck or something.
How many members do you have men/women?

Only the men have members, (although we question some) but the women have about 10-15 active PLAYAS.

Dont worry about your wife, we'll get her out to play eventually my PREEE-TTTY!!

Unfortunately, the women only practice with the men on Tuesdays. We go up to Tylersville Rd. on Thursday, but if she only wants to get an idea of the sport, have at it. We will be playing at home with the men this weekend, so come out to catch the women's game as well!

Does the team practice year round? or would I be better off waiting until the spring season to try this?

No time like the present. When I first started to play, I also joined during the middle of the season. We do and do not practice year round. Our seasons are in the fall and spring, but we do some training and playing touch during winter and summer. So, grab some boots and come on out tonight.

I'll be out, but I don't have any boots. I want to see what you guys do before I submit myself to a rugby ass kicking. how much are the club dues? How many guys are on the teams? can i drink while you practice? (haha)

Lou

Well, like any fine orginzation, drinking is always incouraged. Sometimes it is mandated. As for the team numbers, I am not sure, probably about 40 to 50 for the men. I have no idea what the rookie dues are, James should be able to help on this.

No boots? Well, maybe some fine rugger could lend you a pair for practice. What size are your feet?

Thanks for the offer, but I'll just watch tonight. If I decide to join the club can i wear soccer cleats? you all are taking in new members are'nt you?

Lou

Yes, soccer cleats are legal and we are always taking new members. Now Fort, get your mind out of the gutter.

I would like to thank everyone that added to this thread for extending goodwill to a newbie to the game, especially Shannon.
I have decided to wait and join the club next spring season, but i will be at the few remaining games of the season to cheer you guys on.
Thanks and good luck,
Aaron
